Bass Pro Shops announces manager for new Outdoor World location in Vancouver, British Columbia

Gerald Macintyre to lead team of 400-plus at outdoor location scheduled to open in Tsawwassen Mills

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Bass Pro Shops today announced Gerald Macintyre has been named general manager for the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World scheduled to open later this year in the Tsawwassen Mills near Vancouver, British Columbia.

Macintyre, who has more than 20 years retail experience, will oversee all aspects of the 148,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. Located on the northwest corner of Highway 17 and 52nd Avenue, the new Bass Pro Shops is a key anchor for the  Tsawwassen Mills – a 1.2-million-sqare-foot, value-oriented mall, being developed by Ivanhoé Cambridge.

“I am excited to lead the team bringing Bass Pro Shops to the Vancouver area. The region is home to incredible natural areas and passionate outdoor enthusiasts we look forward to welcoming when we open our doors,” said Macintyre.

Prior to coming to Bass Pro Shops, Macintyre held management positions at other national retail brands.

He will lead a team of 400-plus associates and build on a culture that has earned the company national recognition. In 2015 Bass Pro Shops was named one of “America’s Best Employers” by Forbes magazine for its excellence as an employee-focused company.

“Our team will share their extensive knowledge and love for the outdoors with our customers in an expansive environment with a wide range of products,” said Macintyre.

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will reflect the province’s local wildlife and the rich diversity of natural habitats. Features include hand-painted murals, museum-quality fish and wildlife mounts, a 13,000-gallon aquarium stocked with fish native to the area, and tributes to the area’s geographical points of interest.

In addition, the Outdoor World location will offer an incredible array of fishing, hunting, camping, and boating equipment that’s specific to the region as well as outdoor cooking gear, outdoor apparel and footwear, and nature-themed gifts.

Since the beginning, Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris has been dedicated to inspiring people, especially youth and families, to love, enjoy and conserve the great outdoors. That commitment, demonstrated over the course of several decades, is a big reason why Bass Pro Shops is known as the outdoor industry’s corporate conservation leader.

Macintyre, who is from Nova Scotia, is a former combat diver for the military and was posted in British Columbia in the 1990’s. He is an avid angler and also enjoys hiking, back country backpacking and snowmobiling.
