Martin Truex Jr. and No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats team captures regular season points title
Truex continues impressive season at Darlington
DARLINGTON, S.C. – Martin Truex Jr., driver of the No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Toyota Camry, secured the NASCAR Cup Series regular season points title after taking two stage wins during the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
Capturing the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Championship awards Truex an additional 15 playoff points and positions the No. 78 team well for a strong playoff push. The two stage wins Truex captured at Darlington add to an impressive 2017 campaign during which the No. 78 has won four races, claimed 10 top-five finishes, 17 top-10 wins and 17 stage wins.
“We are very proud of Martin for all that he has accomplished this season. He has provided lots of excitement for our customers and team members all season long and we wish him the best heading into the playoffs,” said Johnny Morris, an avid NASCAR fan and Bass Pro Shops founder/CEO. “Martin is a true champion in racing as well as in life, and I’m honored to call him my friend.”
Morris and Truex have built a longstanding friendship and partnership since Truex’s NASCAR career began in 2001 during which Bass Pro Shops served as Truex’s first sponsor. Bass Pro Shops and TRACKER Boats served as primary sponsor for Truex during two Xfinity Series championships in 2004 and 2005 as well as his first three seasons in Sprint Cup.
Truex captured two stage wins at Darlington while piloting a special throwback paint scheme on his No. 78 Toyota Camry honoring the 40th anniversary of TRACKER Boats. Johnny Morris revolutionized the marine industry when he introduced the world’s first professionally rigged and nationally marketed boat, motor and trailer packages. TRACKER Boats quickly became and has remained the number one selling fishing boat brand in America. Bass Pro Shops and TRACKER Boats have a long relationship with NASCAR dating back to 1998.
The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs commence following next week’s Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.
